Help Someone in Need & Gain Business Exposure Too

Many businesses have a long history of contributing to various charity events and helping those in need.  Not only are they making a positive difference in the lives of others, they are also creating a great reputation for themselves and promoting their business to many people who may not have otherwise known about them.

Many charity events receive local and national media exposure.  As someone who is contributing a donation to an event, or organizing the event yourself, your name will most likely be featured in any news stories that are written about the event.  Even small stories can get picked up by news wire services or bloggers, and a small-town story can be spread all over the world.  Who knows how many people could read an article about the event (including information about your business).

You can choose to simply contribute to events that are already taking place or you can create your own.  This can be held online or offline.  To find a charity event you might be interested in, start thinking about some causes you would like to promote.

If someone near and dear to you suffers from an illness, you can do a Google search to see if any events are being held that support finding a cure for that particular illness.  Perhaps you would like to support animal rights organizations, organizations that help victims of domestic violence, or groups that protect the environment. The choices are limitless.

You can also create your own charity event, based around any organization or group you want to help out.  If you are going to hold your event locally, you can simply take donations form other business owners and citizens, organize a bake sale or rummage sale, or hold a raffle drawing for prizes.

Taking this concept online is very easy to do.  Again, you can join forces with other online businesses and you can each ask your mailing lists for donations or you can offer a special sale on an item, with all proceeds going to the charity.  You can also hold a contest or other prize drawing.

Don’t forget to write and send press releases to your local media as well as to online press release submission sites.  Ask any of your business partners and the charity you are helping out to do the same.  The more press you receive, the better for everyone involved.  The charity event will receive more awareness, and hopefully a bigger turnout.  This will, of course, lead to more money being rasied for the charity itself.  That being said, the more publicity the event receives, the more publicity your business will receive as well.
